The definition of sustainability is usually cited as "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"
Corporate and social responsibility (CSR) is closely linked with the principle of sustainability which argues that enterprises should make decisions based not only on financial factors such as profits or dividends, but also based on the immediate and long-term social and environmental consequences of their activities.The Directors of ecex have an obligation to consider the interests of customers, employees, the community and the environment in all aspects of the company's operations. This obligation extends beyond the statutory obligation to comply with legislation and may have cost implications to the business, but such costs will not be seen as a barrier to adopting the most environmentally aware and ethical practice. Our 10 key objectives are:
- To encourage our staff to adopt these same objectives in their home lives
- To cut waste, recycle everything possible, minimise landfill
- To minimise energy consumption
- To operate a company vehicle policy with strict upper emission limits
- To discourage non-essential motoring, for example via online meetings
- To encourage the use of public transport wherever practical to do so
- To procure goods and services from ethical sources
- To work with like-minded clients and suppliers
- To ensure our staff are trained so that the advice we give to clients always considers current best-practice
- To continue to support our nominated charity, ChildLine
