Hi Holly,
Thank you for the work carried out in the Lipton tea area, we were very pleased with the work, very professional and left clean and tidy.
SODEXO Corporate Services IFM
Good afternoon Adam,
I can confirm that Chris and his colleague worked hard and well. Once this task has been completed it will be a fine workmanship. They are both a credit to your company. Big thanks!
It is always pleasing to be appreciated and this is a big fillip for the fabrication team.
ecex are pleased to have been awarded a contract to carry out thermal efficiency surveys for 27 buildings.
The survey work is being undertaken during one of the coldest periods of the year.
It is hoped that significant thermal efficiency upgrades can be identified for our national treasures.
.
A tough assessment this year, but ecex passed and now have CHAS approval. The logo has been added to our badges at the bottom of the web page.
We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to safe working practices.

There is no doubt that the current batch of seasonably cold weather will create many slip hazards on site.
Standing water turned into ice patches. Slippery ladder rungs and walkways turn previously safe access routes into an accident waiting to happen.
Working with Norland Managed Services and Mercedes Benz one such area is soon to be made safe by ecex.
A cost effective solution to minimise the risk of injury for a major client.
A brilliant solution to the problem of edge protection where you do not want to penetrate the roof surface.
ecex recently completed a project at Queens Club in London to make roof access much safer.
Take a look at the case study here http://www.ecexproblemsolved.co.uk/case-studies/024033.pdf

The ecex Xmas competition is now over.
All the entries have been received and printed.
The winner was drawn from our MD’s hat (think Indiana Jones or Crocodile Dundee and you get the picture).
From an entry of thousands (poetic license) the winner is (drum roll):
Debbie Lancelott of Savills.

“Thank you for this thoughtful blog post. I would have to say that my building was not fire protected. Before the fire inspectors came in and informed the landlords that they needed more fire alarms. There were also several issues that should have been rectified that could have possibly helped in allowing the fire not to spread as much.
Thank you for passing on the word. To homeowners, landlords, etc. Please fix situations that could lead to potential hazards or worsen circumstances.”

As part of our commitment to the season of giving ecex are not giving any cards this year.
Although this means a loss of revenue for card makers and the postal service we felt that the money was better spent with Childline.
Why not join ecex and donate to your favourite charity. ![]()

It is that time of year when we all get ready for the round of parties and make excuses
for tinsel, cards and Xmas trees.
In today’s safety conscious society everything needs a risk assessment.
Here is our Christmas offering.
Enjoy. ![]()

Okay it is only a little competition.
What do you get? A massive (smile) £20.00 or £40.00 of gift vouchers. Great as an extra present for one of the family to spend during the January sales.
What do we get? A realistic gauge of the web traffic to and from our blog and the effect on referrals by any of the social media methods.

Cooling tower access is always a problem.
For some reason, the manufacturers and installers never think about those of us at the bottom of the food chain who have to maintain their equipment.
Services installed to prevent a clear and safe means of access to control panels etc.
Service panels difficult to reach and impossible to get to safely.
Luckily there is always a cost effective solution. For an example see

December is fast approaching and November is fading fast.
As the majority of our customers take an extended Christmas break we are pushing hard to get all of our work finished as quickly as we can.
Luckily a lot of people are thinking the same way.
Behind every grand hotel or office building lie hazards and risks that continue to astound ecex.
Slippery steps and walkways, missing edge protection, crazy wooden structures, inexplicably poor guards, falls down riser shafts, “rubbish” housekeeping etc.
You have seen the pictures of how they do it overseas and may have even laughed at the stupidity of these workers as you thought to yourself “at least that sort of thing does not happen over here”.
Take a look at the ecex blog to see some shocking examples of recent examples unearthed by ecex.
This month we’re looking at simple measures to ensure that you, and the people around you, can work safely and effectively.

PP or not PP (loose Shakespearean reference from Hamlet)
Recognising that passive fire protection should be shortened to PFP and not PP is simply poetic license but it does not detract from the importance of this subject. Fire stopping.
PFP forms an integral part of the three components used to prevent the spread of fire and smoke throughout a building. These are fire resistant walls, floors/ceilings and doors.
The structure!
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is the latest in a range of statutory updates dating from the London Cooking Fire Bylaw 1705

It is always good to receive a compliment for work well done. More important is to publicise the fact so that the guys know that they are appreciated.
Well done Jim, Joe, Steve, Tony, Sean & Wayne.
Thanks also to Steve F for the feedback.
Len - Would just like to say that I was very happy with your guys and the work they carried out, please pass on my appreciation and thanks to the guys
Fire stopping and Nov. 5th
Did that grab your attention. Hope so!
ecex have provided Passive Fire Protection (PSF) for many years.
The new web page within Building and Fabric now provides much greater detail.
Had some work done recently? Did it involve running services via the fire breaks? Have these penetrations been sealed?

Danish engineering firm Bystrup beat 250 rivals to win the Royal Institute of British Architects contest.
It set the challenge to replace the familiar "triangle" design - in use since the 1920s - in May, although there is no commitment to build them.
An increasing number of pylons are expected to be needed to connect new wind, nuclear and hydroelectric plants.

Why not take a look at our Blog site.
At the moment we are discussing insulation and energy. It is a hot topic and will undoubtedly save a lot on money if you choose to invest.
Speculate to accumulate.
http://ecexproblemsolved.wordpress.com/
So where is there a quick fix and an immediate cost saving?
It is not always obvious but it does always provide results.
Heating pipework must be looked at.
Valves and pipework serving primary and secondary hot water supplies must be protected from thermal losses.
Each kW of heat lost from a section of pipework is another kW the boilers need to produce.
Another round of quantitative easing.
Interest rates remain low.
Now is the time to invest in money saving for the future!
Contact ecex to see how we can save money in your building.
A lot of new customers have benefited from the minimum 10-15% savings available from ecex.
September was a fantastic month as everyone checked out their plant in readiness for the new heating season.
If you want a price list just ask the sales office (01635 244100) or your representative. Why waste money?
Thank you Adam. It is good to see well composed RAMS like these (normally people reduce the severity of an incident just because they manage the likelihood...), please accept my congratulations.
I will raise an access permit and send it to you ASAP.
Kind Regards
Chillers working extra hours to cope with the lovely sunny weather.
Chilled water pipes need insulation too!
Springtime in October
It’s that time again!
Heating goes on as the temperature drops.
Why waste all of that energy through poorly insulated pipework?
Take a look at mechanical services for more information.

This weeks activity on the web and in various safety magazines has been concentrating on the above risk.
These hazards are easy to manage and control but should be treated with respect.
No control can lead to anything from a minor injury to death. Think about it and call ecex for advice or take a look at http://www.ecex.co.uk/antislip.asp
Look out for a series of blog updates regarding what we can all do regarding energy efficiency.
It is the topic of the year and should be!
Look at all of the energy drains in your building and then contact ecex for a solution.
For those of you not familiar with ecex take some time to look around and see what we have to offer.

Various changes required. Further news to follow.
People will see we are doing it to save 400 jobs in the organisation which in itself will protect several services in the organisation and they will see we are doing this for the right reasons...sign their contracts, come in to work on Monday, and we can start to put this behind us," he said.
Workers who failed to report for work earlier will be deemed to have refused to sign up to the new terms and conditions which would see those earning more than £17,500 a year taking a 4.5% pay cut.
They could then face the sack for failing to sign.
Unite union bosses have described as "devastating" a new internal council report that outlines plans to set aside £5m annually, between 2012-14, for redundancies.
The union claims the report indicates plans for redundancies will increase year-on-year, with 361 posts going next year, rising to 725 by 2013 to a total of 1,224 in 2014.
